Fair Board selects site for second new restroom facility

GOSHEN — The Elkhart County 4-H Fair Board voted Tuesday, Jan. 15, on the final location of the second of two new restroom buildings that will be added to the grounds for this year’s fair.

The board voted last month to add two restrooms to the 2014 budget. The board also approved building the first facility in the northwest corner of the grounds, but needed more time to make a final decision on the location of the second.

The second restroom building will be centrally located after Tuesday night’s vote.

Against only about five dissenting votes, the building will be constructed directly behind the poultry barn, just north of the draft horse barn.

The facility will also be close to the track and grandstands area.

Mark Kritzman said the space allows for a 30- by 48-foot restroom facility with approximately 1,000 square feet of storage on the west side of the building.

An overhead door on the south side of the new building will allow for easy access into the storage area.

The construction of the restroom in that area will mean relocating some outdoor commercial exhibits farther east, but does not affect much else.

The board originally chose to look into the approximately $250,000 restroom facilities to address long lines at the current restrooms, which had become a customer service concern.
