ELKHART — Eight local high school students will compete in the 28th annual Student Concerto Competition Sunday, Jan. 12.
The competition will begin at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Elkhart, 200 E. Beardsley Ave.
The contestants will vie for cash prizes and a chance to perform with the Elkhart County Symphony at their “The Power of Love” concert at the Lerner Theatre on Feb. 15.
This year’s entrants are Thomas Wheeler, a home-schooled cellist; Carol Weirich, a pianist from Elkhart Central High School; Lauren Weirich, a violinist from Elkhart Central High School; Abigail Alwine, a violist from Concord High School; Abigail Greaser, a violinist from Goshen High School; Alexis Barton, a violinist from Goshen High School; Raina DeVries, a violinist from Penn High School; and Anton Gillespie, a French horn player from South Bend Adams High School;
Third place in the competition will win $50 and second place will take home $100.
The student that wins the competition will receive $200 and the opportunity to perform with the Symphony.
