ELKHART — A right-to-life group plans a rally to raise awareness about the abortion issue timed in connection with the looming anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

The event, sponsored by Elkhart County Right to Life, is set for noon Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Lerner Theatre, 410 S. Main St. The program will feature Angela Minter, founder and executive director of Sisters For Life, a right-to-life group based in Louisville, Ky. Women who have had abortions will also speak and then participants will march to the Women’s Care Center nearby at 229 W. Marion St.

Saturday’s rally will be the third in as many years sponsored by Elkhart County Right to Life. It was deliberately timed around the anniversary of the Jan. 22, 1973, anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing abortion.

Around 200 to 300 took part in last year’s rally here and Dave Koontz, who’s helping organizing this year’s event, says participation could reach 400 this year. Around 150 churches have been informed of the event, he said.
