ELKHART — Adam Bujalski, candidate for the District 48 Indiana House seat, would push for increased “alternative education choices” if elected to the post.

In a statement Thursday, Dec. 26, he said “one of the many bright spots” in traveling around the community has been his meetings with educators at the Elkhart Area Career Center, or EACC, a division of Elkhart Community Schools. He’d use the EACC, which offers high school students instruction in a range of vocations, as a model in pushing for education alternatives.

“We need to stop teaching to pass a standardized test and start teaching our children to be successful after graduation by learning real life skills,” Bujalski, a Republican, said in his statement. He went on: “As I drive around the district I do not see now hiring signs for perfect test scores but I see plenty of signs for experienced welders or engine mechanics.”

Bujalski is vying for the Elkhart County seat to be vacated by Indiana Rep. Tim Neese. Neese, a Republican, isn’t seeking re-election, but rather, plans to run for mayor of Elkhart in 2015.
