Names of soldiers killed with Elkhart-born man in Afghanistan released

Officials have released the names of all six soldiers, including U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Jesse Williams from Elkhart, who were killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

ELKHART — The names of five U.S. soliders killed this week in Afghanistan with Elkhart-born Army Staff Sgt. Jesse Lee Williams have been released by the Department of Defense.

The six soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash Tuesday, Dec. 17, on a Black Hawk UH-60 in Now Bahar, Afghanistan. The incident is pending investigation, according to officials.

Williams, who attended Elkhart Central High School, was on his third deployment after almost eight years with the military, according to his family. He left for his latest deployment in June.

The soldiers who died supporting “Operation Enduring Freedom” were:

Ÿ Staff Sgt. Jesse L. Williams, 30, of Elkhart, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, Regimental Support Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

Ÿ Chief Warrant Officer Randy L. Billings, 34, of Heavener, Okla., assigned to the 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

Ÿ Chief Warrant Officer Joshua B. Silverman, 35, of Scottsdale, Ariz., assigned to the 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

Ÿ Sgt. Peter C. Bohler, 29, of Willow Spring, N.C., assigned to the 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

Ÿ Sgt. 1st Class Omar W. Forde, 28, of Marietta, Ga., assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

Ÿ Spc. Terry K. D. Gordon, 22, of Shubuta, Miss., assigned to 1st Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
