ELKHART — The Libertarian Party of Elkhart County has elected a new slate of leaders.

Jeff Petermann was tabbed last week to serve as county chairman and Rick Bowen, the former chair, took the position of vice chairman, according to a press release. Michael Albert will serve as treasurer and Arlen Ambler will serve as secretary.

“People need to better understand that the Libertarian Party does not stand for ‘no government.’ Rather we want to show how government can best function within a limited scope and focus. It’s up to us to show how that will work,” Petermann said in a statement.

He sees the party growing via a “renewed focus” on local issues and anticipates a “full slate” of candidates in 2014 elections. He also cited plans to take a more visible role in the community through outreach and participation in charitable causes.
