If you see a downed power line, assume that it is energized and dangerous.

That’s one of many safety tips that NIPSCO would like its customers to remember.

In an email sent to customers on Friday, Nov. 22, the utility company expressed gratitude for customers’ patience during power restoration efforts after strong thunderstorms caused power outages all over northern Indiana and southern Michigan on Sunday, Nov. 17.

The company also listed several safety tips to keep in mind in case of future power outages.

People relying on life support equipment should have a back-up plan in the case of an extended power outage. Anyone who sees a downed wire should assume that it is dangerous and report it immediately.

To report a power outage or a downed wire, visit NIPSCO.com, m.NIPSCO.com on mobile devices or call 1-800-464-7726.
