INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Sen. Joe Zakas has received recognition from the Indiana Chamber of Commerce as a small-business champion, the lawmaker said in a press release.

The award goes to state lawmakers who advocate for small businesses and will formally be presented to the Granger Republican, who represents northwestern Elkhart County and part of St. Joseph County, at a luncheon on Nov. 18.

“Small businesses are engines of economic growth and job creation. State policies should encourage that and create a supportive environment for them,” Zakas said in a press release, terming the chamber recognition “gratifying.”

Zakas also garnered the highest score earlier this year for 2013 among the state’s senators on a chamber analysis of lawmakers’ “pro-jobs, pro-economy” voting record. Zakas was also recognized this year by the Indiana Manufacturers Association with an “Award for Legislative Excellence,” said Zakas’ press release.
