ELKHART — While temperatures will be in the mid-60s for Halloween, trick or treating may be dampened Thursday night by rain.

The forecast for Thursday, Oct. 31, includes moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and into the evening.

“(The rain) could possibly bring some stronger winds, but it looks like it’ll hold off until after sunset at this point,” said Nick Greenawald, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Syracuse, in a phone interview Wednesday morning.

Communities in Elkhart County have not rescheduled trick or treating due to weather, but Greenawald added that parents and trick-or-treaters should keep an eye on the forecast.

“We say that if thunder roars, go indoors,” he said. “If we do have those longer showers, stay alert to the weather service’s website or local media for watches or warnings.”
