WALKERTON — The 2013 high school spell bowl season has come down to qualifying for the state finals.

For local squads, that means excelling at the regional level at John Glenn High School.

The competition starts at 6 p.m. Monday and will include Penn, Mishawaka, Bremen, New Prairie, Plymouth and host John Glenn.

Nearly 180 spell bowl squads across Indiana will also be competing Monday night for the right to advance to the state finals at Purdue University-West Lafayette on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Once the scores from across the state are tabulated next Tuesday morning, the Indiana Association of School Principals will notify the top qualifying schools.
