ELKHART — About 175 walkers weren’t deterred by Sunday afternoon’s rainy weather, taking part in the 34th annual CROP Hunger Walk in Elkhart County.

By the end of the event Sunday, Oct. 6, the skies had cleared and bright sunshine bathed the walk’s finish area at Island Park in downtown Elkhart.

Susan Coyne of Church World Service said walkers had raised approximately $15,000 to support hunger relief services locally and around the globe. That figure doesn’t include funds that are being donated online at www.crophungerwalk.org/elkhartin nor pledges still being collected by walkers.

Sunday’s walkers chose between a 1-mile walk or the longer 3.1-mile route. Both started and finished at Island Park.
