Elkhart County delegation to D.C. safe after repots of shots fired

U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly, U.S. Rep. Walorski and their respective staffers are safe, sheltered in their offices, according to the spokeswomen for the lawmakers.

According to multiple media reports, shots were fired Thursday, Oct. 3, outside the U.S. Capitol building.

U.S. Capitol police have instructed all lawmakers and their staff to take shelter in their offices, according to Walorski’s spokeswoman, Elizabeth Guyton, and that’s where Walorski and her staff were as of around 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.

Likewise, Donnelly and his staff were secured in his office, according to Elizabeth Shappell, his spokeswoman.

U.S. Sen. Dan Coats’ staff members were safe in his office, according to Tara DiJulio, the lawmaker’s spokeswoman.
