GOSHEN - Work on a few of Goshen’s main thoroughfares will force a few closures beginning Tuesday, Sept. 17.

The Board of Public Works granted permission to close Jefferson Street, between Main Street and Fifth Street, beginning Tuesday for the Jefferson Street reconstruction project.

City engineer Mary Cripe said work on Jefferson Street is expected to be completed by Nov. 15, at which time the road will be reopened.

Along with the Jefferson Street project, the northbound lanes of Main Street between Madison Street and Jefferson will be closed starting Tuesday, as well as Fifth Street between Jefferson Street and Madison.

The Main Street and Fifth Street closures are a result of water and sewer work that will be taking place.

Cripe said there is not a defined timetable for the Main and Fifth streets projects, but hopes they are completed quickly.

Cripe also announced at the Board of Works meetings that Norfolk Southern will be closing crossings at both Greene Road and Peddlers Village Road beginning Tuesday.
