Elkhart County will share a fiber optic cable with the city of Goshen’s new highway garage on Steury Avenue.
The county commissioners agreed Tuesday, Sept. 3, to extend a cable that hooks up to the Elkhart County Administration Building on Second Street and the county’s highway garage on Steury Avenue.
“The city is building a new maintenance garage for their fleet on Steury Avenue,” county highway manager Jeff Taylor told the commissioners. “They need Internet service out there and connectivity with the rest of their buildings and facilities, and what we would like to do is share one of the county’s fibers with them.”
The city would be responsible for installing its own fiber optic lines from its highway garage to a pole on Steury Avenue where they would be connected to the county’s cable. The county has agreed to allow the connection at no charge. The county would be responsible for repairs and maintenance to the fiber optic lines.
