ELKHART — Local ministers and community leaders will hold a “Love Walk” Monday evening to pray for Elkhart’s youth.

“Due to the recent violence over the summer months and the young people in trouble ... we want to pull the community together to show love, peace and harmony amongst the community and neighbors,” said Pastor James Jackson of Greater Bethlehem Missionary Church.

The march will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at St. James AME Church, 122 Dr. King Drive. The procession will march to the Roosevelt Center, 215 E. Indiana Ave., and the Tolson Center, 1300 Benham Ave., where marchers will pause for prayer, before returning to St. James.

Jackson said the event is a collaboration between the Elkhart Interdenominational Ministers’ Alliance, the Elkhart Police Department, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department and Elkhart Community Schools.

“My main concern is that the community needs to come together,” Jackson said. “If we don’t show a positive attitude and reclaim our community and young people, we’re always going to be faced with a problem.”
