Woman dies trying to hellp an animal.

MIDDLEBURY — A woman attempting to be a Good Samaritan was struck and killed by a car on Saturday, Aug. 3, just inside the Middlebury city limits.

According to Town Marshal Mike McCloughen, the woman, who has not yet been identified, pulled off the road in the 500 block of Main Street when she saw an injured animal. When she stepped out of her car, the woman was hit by a vehicle heading south on Main Street.

“It’s just a very sad story,” McCloughen said. “The lady was trying to do something nice and it turns out very bad.”

The animal was a groundhog, McCloughen said.

The Elkhart County Fatality Team is investigating the incident.
