Fair season continues in Cassopolis, Mich.

CASSOPOLIS, Mich. — As one fair in the area ends, another begins.

The 162nd Cass County Fair started Sunday, July 28, in Cassopolis, with draft horse pulls, a parade, and truck and tractor pulls.

The fair will continue through Saturday, Aug. 3, with $6 adult admission, $1 admission for children ages 6 through 12 and free admission for children 5 and younger.

On Thursday, adults 60 and older with a Medicare card or driver’s license will be admitted free all day. On Friday, homemakers are admitted free until 9:30 a.m.

For adventure-seekers, rides open at 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and at noon Saturday. The pay-one-price option lets riders pay $18 for all-day access to rides Wednesday through Friday. On Saturday, rides are $1 each from noon to 6 p.m. or $18 for the whole day.

Special events include a livestock auction at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, the Ag Olympics at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, and animal shows throughout the week.

The Backyard Chef Contest will take place Saturday. Contestants will submit enough meat for five judges. A total of $1,800 will be awarded in prizes, with $500 going to the grand champion.

Other entertainment will be provided each day, including firefighter shows, interactive children’s shows, lumberjack demonstrations and free video game stations.

Young pizza enthusiasts can partake in the Youth Pizza Eating Contest at 5 p.m. Friday at Porky’s Booth.

The grandstand will have events at 7 p.m. all week.

Wednesday’s event is Super Kickers Bulls and Barrels with DeWayne Spaw, a country singer who was born in Indiana. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children 6 through 12 and $1 for children 5 and younger.

Thursday’s grandstand event is a demolition derby featuring wagons, sedans, cans, suburbans, mini trucks, mini vans and mini cars. Admission is $6 for adults, $2 for children 6 through 12 and $1 for children 5 and younger.

Friday at the grandstand will feature the SJO Super Cross Championship Series with fireworks at dusk. The series is $6 for adults, $2 for children 6 through 12 and $1 for children 5 and younger.

The final day of the fair will feature a monster truck rally at the grandstand. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 through 12 and $1 for children 5 and younger.
