The tractors were pullin’ Thursday, July 25, at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair. As were super modified two wheel drive pickup trucks, hot rod semis, a couple of vintage coupes and what looked to be a cross between a race car and a farm tractor.
Machines pulling in the farm stock classes looked much like a regular tractor, but machines in the Lucas Oil PPL Tractor and Truck Pull looked as much like race cars as tractors. Tractors in the super modified tractor class can have three or four engines, the pickup trucks have engines that could power a drag racing car and the pro stock classes of tractors look like sleek racing machines instead of something used to work a farm field.
Spectators watched the outside track closest to the grandstand fill with Lucas Oil pullers, while the inside track was busy with farm stock pullers. In between pulls, volunteers with earth grading machinery smoothed and repaired the surface of the track.
The afternoon show included pullers with super modified 2 WD trucks and modified tractors. The evening pullers included more tractors and hot rod semis.
