Promoted Officer Ryan Adams of the Goshen Police Department to the rank of detective and Officer Courtney Simpkins to the rank of lieutenant. Both promotions were made retroactive to Friday, July 12.
Granted Adam Scharf’s request to close three parking spaces in front of 109 and 111 E. Lincoln Ave. from Tuesday, July 16, through July 26 in order to complete repair and repainting of the primary façade of a building.
Granted Meghan Borland’s request to close the city’s parking lot between Ignition Music and The Local from noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 24 for an artisan market.
Granted Kiwanis International’s request for street closings and staging for the 2013 Elkhart County 4-H Fair parade Sunday, July 21. U.S. 33 will be closed from Plymouth Avenue to Indiana Avenue, S.R. 15 from Plymouth Avenue to the Third Street overpass and S.R. 4 from Main Street to Fifth Street. A detour will be provided using Plymouth, Indiana, Pike Street and Fifth Street. Staging areas will be at Linway Plaza, the Kroger Plaza and Rogers Park.
Granted North Goshen Mennonite Church’s request to close North Eighth Street from Middlebury Street to Summit Street and Summit Street from North Eighth Street to the alley west of the church. The closures will be in effect from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 3 for the church’s annual block party.
Accepted an agreement with HD Supply Waterworks Group to purchase valve insertion systems that will allow the city to install 4- through 12-inch valves without interrupting water service to city customers. The system will cost $52,564 and will be delivered on or before Aug. 26.
Extended the city’s uniform service contract with Wildman Business Group for an additional two-year period beginning Jan. 1, 2014, through Dec. 31, 2015.
Accepted the Goshen Fire Department’s agreement with IU Health Goshen Hospital for hospital affiliation and EMS sponsorship as required by the state of Indiana.
Granted Myron Bontrager’s request to install an exhaust vent into the alley off East Washington Street for its new location at 118 E. Washington St. The vent will be about 10 feet off the pavement.
Opened six bids for the Jefferson Street reconstruction project and referred them to the engineering department for a recommendation.
