Motorcyclist hospitalized following chase, police say
BRISTOL — A Goshen man was hospitalized in South Bend after crashing his motorcycle following a police chase Friday night, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
William T. Helms, 42, went to Memorial Hospital with a dislocated leg, facial bleeding and chest pain after the crash on C.R. 21 at C.R. 8, according to Sgt. Mike McHenry of the sheriff’s department.
McHenry said deputies tried to stop Helms on C.R. 6 just east of C.R. 9 on Elkhart’s north side at 11:39 p.m. Friday, July 12.
Helms didn’t stop and kept heading east, according to McHenry. When he reached the east end of C.R. 6 at C.R. 21, Helms headed south onto C.R. 21, which reaches a T intersection with C.R. 8 just south of C.R. 6, McHenry reported. At that intersection Helms rode off the road and the motorcycle slammed into a tree, throwing Helms off, according to McHenry’s report.
