ELKHART — An investigation of a Saturday evening fire on Fieldhouse Avenue turned up an active meth lab, officials said.

According to a press release from the Elkhart Fire Department, firefighters found the lab after taking control of the fire.

Firefighters were first called to the house at 1820 Fieldhouse Ave. around 7 p.m. Saturday, July 6.

Crews encountered flames and smoke on the east side and in the rear of the one-story residence.

Firefighters had to knock down the east walls of the building to gain entrance to the interior, where there were more flames, before the blaze was brought under control.

No one was injured in the fire.

After fire crews found the meth lab, the investigation was turned over to the Elkhart Police Department.
