Boaters float along St. Joe River for Independence Day

ELKHART — Roughly 100 boaters took to the water for the annual Fourth of July Upper St. Joseph River Flotilla in Elkhart.

About 25 boats were decorated for the patriotic celebration with the theme “Whatever Floats Your Boat.” Awards were given to the most festive vessels. The award winners included:

Ÿ First place: “Mardi Gras on the St. Joe Bayou” by Jeff and Rose Lauer, Rose and Neil Darrah, Delores Degolier, and Patrick and Patti Cripe

Ÿ Second place: “Duck Dynasty” by Frank and Tonia Lucchese, Betsy Tepe, and Ashley and Grant Lucchese

Ÿ Third place: “Baywatch Barbie” by Liz Schneider, Liz Ladowicz, Mallory and Merrill Welch, Jeannie Oren, Pat Welch, Spencer Brotherson and Greg Gillis

Ÿ Most patriotic: “Red, White and True Blue” by Phil and Cindy Jantz, Stephanie Collins, Fred Klemm, Tina Neff and Colleen Currier
