Cooler weather fireworks at Rice Field

Elkhart's annual fireworks display lights up the night.

Posted on July 3, 2013 at 1:00 a.m.

Elkhart Central High School’s Rice Field and the surrounding grassy areas saw its usual swarm of revelers enjoying Elkhart’s annual fireworks display at dusk Wednesday night, July 3.

Families sat together on blankets and looked to the sky to enjoy explosions of color, while those living close enough to Rice Field to see the action did not bother to get any closer, setting up chairs on their lawns rather than fussing with the masses.

There are more opportunities to catch Independence Day pyrotechnics around Elkhart County. Other upcoming local displays are at dusk Thursday at Stauffer Park in Nappanee, Beutter Park in Mishawaka and Lakeside Park in Syracuse; 10 p.m. Friday at Century Center Island, South Bend, and 7 p.m. Sunday at Black Squirrel Golf Course, Goshen.

In this Aug. 13, 2014 photo, an overall view of the Firstkontact Center, a call center in the northern border city of Tijuana, Mexico. Many Mexicans deported under U.S. President Barack Obama are finding employment in call centers in Tijuana and other border cities. In perfect English, some don’t even speak Spanish, they talk to American consumers who buy gadgets and gizmos, have questions about warrantees and complain about overdue deliveries. A large number of workers spent nearly all their lives in the U.S. and still have family there, a major selling point for Mexico over English-language industry leaders like India and the Philippines.
