County stormwater group may use QR codes for another activity
GOSHEN — A treasure hunt sponsored by the Greater Elkhart County Stormwater Partnership was not as popular as the group had expected it would be, but another activity using the newly installed stormwater signs could be coming soon.
The treasure hunt used QR codes on 51 stormwater signs placed throughout the county to lead participants on a tour of the area’s parks, trails and boat launches.
“People are noticing them, and the people who did the treasure hunt were excited, but maybe we didn’t give them enough time, or it was too much to expect them to go all over the county,” county stormwater coordinator Eric Kurtz said.
The QR codes, which can be scanned with smartphones, are still on the signs and will be used for other educational activities to teach the public about the county’s waterways, Kurtz said.
