ELKHART — The Lerner Theatre is bringing back “Yankee Doodle Dandy” to celebrate Independence Day.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, for the Lerner’s second free screening of the classic black and white film. The movie, starring James Cagney and Joan Leslie, begins at 7:30 p.m. at the theater, 410 S. Main St. in downtown Elkhart.

“Yankee Doodle Dandy,” released in 1942, is a biographical musical about George M. Cohan, an entertainer and songwriter who penned tunes including “Give my Regards to Broadway,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “The Yankee Doodle Boy.”

Optional donations will be accepted at the door on behalf of the Friends of the Lerner.
