ELKHART — Thousands of Elkhart County residents were in the dark Monday evening after a band of thunderstorms swept through the area.

Emergency crews responded to dozens of reports of roads blocked by fallen trees and power lines in Elkhart.

There were numerous reports of downed power lines setting nearby bushes and trees on fire.

Indiana Michigan Power reported 9,727 Elkhart County customers without power in Elkhart County at 9:45 p.m. on Monday, June 24.

The Northern Indiana Public Service Company reported 10,321 Elkhart County customers without power.
