Teen dies following drive-by shooting

ELKHART — A drive-by shooting claimed the life of a teenager on Benham Avenue, just north of Garfield Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 22.

According to a press release from the Elkhart Police Department, Braxton Barhams, 16, was pronounced dead at the Elkhart General Hospital.

Police responded to reports of shots fired at 6:46 p.m. at 250 W. Garfield Ave. and found the youth in the back yard of a home just off Benham.

No arrests have been made and the suspect vehicle has not been found.

Police had four evidence markers along the street — three on Benham and one on the sidewalk next to the home.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the police station at 574-295-7070.
