ELKHART — For the seventh year in a row, Tom Nickel was named the top fundraiser for ADEC’s annual Ride-a-Bike event, a tradition that he started in honor of his daughter.
Nickel was among 250 bike riders who saddled up in May to raise more than $30,000 in pledges, donations and sponsorships for ADEC, one of Elkhart County’s largest non-profit organizations. Money raised at the annual event benefits programs and services for children, adults and families living with disabilities.
Nickel, who started a team called “Keeping the Faith,” raised more than $3,000 for ADEC. He shared the spotlight at the organization’s awards luncheon Friday, June 14, with top youth fundraiser Jonathan Riblet of Elkhart and Kenneth Lingofelter of Bristol, who raised $1,000 and received the Bradley S. Vite Award for dedicated volunteerism. Cleo Kirkton of Middlebury finished second in the youth category, and Lexi Tucker of Goshen came in third.
More than 20 other Ride-a-Bike participants earned restaurant gift cards by raising pledges of $250 or more for ADEC.
