SOUTH BEND – According to a survey by gas price tracking website GasBuddy, the average gas price in South Bend on Sunday, June 9, was $4.22 a gallon, which is 58 cents higher than the national average.
GasBuddy, which operates www.southbendgasprices.com, also found that average gas prices in South Bend rose 15.5 cents per gallon in the past week.
“While the national average has seen little change in the last week, prices in the Great Lakes have skyrocketed,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.
He cited refinery shutdowns and maintenance as contributing factors to the price spike.
The price of a gallon of gas in South Bend on June 9 was about 40 cents more expensive than a month ago, according to the survey.
“While these situations are difficult for motorists to digest, relief is on the way and will likely arrive in a few weeks,” DeHaan said.
