Lerner Theatre warns customers of potential risk
ELKHART — The ticket system provider for the Lerner Theatre believes a hacker may have accessed credit card information of some customers who have bought tickets to events at the downtown Elkhart venue.
Vendini Inc. said a “third-party criminal actor” may have collected personal information in late March, including names, mailing addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and credit card numbers with expiration dates. The company detected the unauthorized activity in its database on April 25.
“At this early stage it appears that only a small percentage of Lerner patrons may be at risk,” Lerner general manager David Smith said in an email.
The theater’s staff is in contact with Vendini, which is working closely with federal law enforcement and launching an internal investigation using outside computer forensic and cyber security experts.
Vendini has advised customers to review their credit card records for unauthorized use. The company suggests that people who believe that they are victims of identity theft or fraud to contact local law enforcement, the state attorney general’s office and the Federal Trade Commission.
