Unsolved Haradine homicide is Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week
ELKHART — An unsolved homicide case from 1985 is Michiana Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week.
Ada Haradine, 39, went missing from her Elkhart home May 8, 1985. Her remains were found three years later by mushroom hunters in a wooded area near Birch Lake Road north of US 12 in Cass County. Her death was ruled a homicide resulting from a head injury.
At the time of Haradine’s disappearance, a witness said he had seen Haradine talking to a man with a dark-colored four-door car outside the house shortly before she disappeared.
Lieutenant Cindy Kilgore of Michiana Crime Stoppers said the Haradine incident is being featured this week at the request of an investigator involved in the original case. These types of requests, she said, happen often.
“Whenever we feature a case, there’s a likelihood that it will remind someone that the case is still unsolved,” said Kilgore. “We recently had some movement on some very cold cases because they’ve been featured as Crime of the Week.”
She added, “Homicides are never technically closed. Over the decades periodically tips would come in (for the Haradine case). I don’t know how long it’s been since a viable tip came in.”
Anyone with information on the case can call Crime Stoppers at 288-7867 or 800-342-7967.
