Teen murder suspect in court today

ELKHART — An Elkhart teen charged with murder in the April shooting death of Eddie Johnson is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

Leeshawn Rodgers, 19, of Elkhart was arrested on Monday, May 13, in Indianapolis.

He was transferred to the Elkhart County Jail on Tuesday, May 21, and is scheduled to appear for his inistial hearing in Elkhart Circuit Court on Thursday, May 23, according to jail records.

Johnson was shot while standing outside a home at the corner of Sixth Street and Cleveland Avenue around 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30. He was rushed to the hospital by bystanders, where he was pronounced dead.

John White, Elkhart County coroner, said Johnson died of multiple gunshot wounds, though he would not elaborate further because the investigation was ongoing.
