ELKHART — Falling temperatures this weekend could bring light frost to Elkhart County.

Accuweather.com reports that temperatures in the Michiana area could fall 10 to 15 degrees below normal.

Sunday night will bring the greatest potential for frost. The National Weather Service predicts a low temperature of 32 degrees for Sunday night.

“I don’t think it’s going to be bitter cold, but some annuals are more sensitive than others,” said Debbie Fessenden, a landscape designer at Linton’s Enchanted Gardens, 315 C.R. 17 in Elkhart.

“If you have anything annual, like hanging baskets or if you have planted annuals, just cover them with a sheet,” Fessenden said. “Don’t use plastic. Plastic’s never good for plants.”

The frost should not harm perennial plants, she said.
