ELKHART — Mark Miller’s family and friends expressed their relief Wednesday, May 1, when his business partner Todd Stewart was charged in Miller’s Sept. 2012 death.

Miller’s body was found on Sept. 20, 2012, in a 55-gallon barrel floating in the St. Joseph River west of the Six Span Bridge near the intersection of C.R. 17 and S.R. 120.

According to a news release from the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s office, a business associate of Miller and Stewart said he saw Stewart shoot Miller outside of their tattoo shop and that he helped Stewart load Miller’s body into Stewart’s truck.

“I don’t know what to think,” Sheila Miller, Mark Miller’s mother, said. “I’m shook up. I’m glad he’s in jail. I got a lot of things going through my mind.”

Sheila Miller, who lives in Florida, said she had just been in Indiana for seven weeks and returned to Florida on Wednesday, the same day the charges were announced.

“Obviously we’ll be going back (to Indiana) just as soon as we can,” she said.

She said she intends to be in court for all of Stewart’s hearings and his trial.

“I’ll be at every one of them,” she said.

Tracy Cohee, a close friend of Mark Miller, said she was relieved by the news.

“This is wonderful,” Cohee said. “This has been a nightmare. I’m so thrilled for Mark and his children.”

Mark Miller had four children, Cohee said.

“I’m very happy for the family,” she said. “This will bring some closure for them and everybody that loved Mark.”
