Man dies after shooting on Sixth Street

ELKHART — A man shot Tuesday afternoon, April 30, near South Sixth Street and Cleveland Avenue died from his injuries, police said.

Police identified him as Eddie Johnson, 34, of Elkhart.

Elkhart police Lt. Brent Long said the victim and three or four other people were standing in the yard of the home at 1702 S. Sixth St. on Tuesday afternoon, when the man was shot.

One witness at the scene said she heard six gunshots.

The injured man was rushed to Elkhart General Hospital by people who were there shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to police.

Lt. Mike Sigsbee said the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Elkhart Police's anonymous tip line at 389-4770. The homicide unit is investigating the shooting.
