Local schools place well in state academic contests

INDIANAPOLIS — Local schools earned places last weekend in the Indiana Academic Super Bowl junior division state contests.

More than 200 junior high and middle schools competed across the state Saturday, April 27, at 14 different area contest locations, according to the website for the Indiana Association of School Principals, which organizes the contests. In the junior division, scores from the area contests are compared to determine overall state winners.

Discovery Middle School’s team was named the state champion in the class I math competition, while Concord Junior High School’s team earned third place.

In the class I English competition, Discovery earned fifth place and Schmucker Middle School earned 10th in the state. In class I science, Schmucker placed in seventh-place and Discovery followed in eighth.

North Side Middle School placed fifth in the state in the class I interdisciplinary competition.

In class two, Grissom Middle School earned ninth in the state in the social studies contest.

State finals for qualifying teams in the senior division of Indiana Academic Super Bowl will be this Saturday, May 4, at Purdue University. Penn and NorthWood high schools are the two local schools with teams set to compete then.
