Dowagiac, Mich. 16-year-old in serious condition after crash in Cass County Saturday

Driver MedFlighted to South Bend, passenger taken to Dowagiac Lee Memorial Hospital

DOWAGIAC — A 16-year-old was transported by MedFlight to South Bend Memorial Hospital after a one-car crash Saturday evening, April 27.

According to a release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Shawn Haley, 16, of Dowagiac, was driving west on Peavine Street near Oak Grove Road in LaGrange Township at 7:16 p.m. Saturday.

Haley tried to pass another westbound vehicle but lost control of his vehicle, over-corrected and flipped the vehicle.

Haley was taken to South Bend Memorial by MedFlight and is currently listed in serious condition.

A passenger in the vehicle, Katelyn Brooks, 17, was taken to Dowagiac Lee Memorial Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Both Haley and Brooks were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Pride Care, MedFlight, Dowagiac Fire and Pokagon Tribal Police assisted sheriff’s deputies at the scene, which remains under investigation.
