African American health program Saturday in Elkhart
A statewide initiative to boost health care efforts among African Americans boys and men will include an event at four barbershops in Elkhart on Saturday, April 13.
The Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative program includes health screenings that will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations: Total Look, 910 S. Main St.; The Perfect Touch, 612 S. Main St. and 910 S. Main St.; and LeKres Salon/Barbershop, 131 S. Main St.
The goal of the program is to educate black males about risk factors associated with heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes.
The program is sponsored by the Indiana Commission on the Social Status of Black Males and the Minority Health Coalition of Elkhart County.
Elkhart is among a dozen cities participating. Others include South Bend, Gary and Fort Wayne.
