Middlebury Redevelopment Commission
When: Thursday, March 28
Discussed a tax phase-in or abatement policy for the county, developed by the Intergovernmental Forum. The Intergovernmental Forum is made up of representatives from all of the governmental entities in the county. Currently every community handles tax abatements differently. The Intergovernmental Forum wants to present a more unified approach to prospective businesses seeking to locate or expand operations in Elkhart County. Commissioners were asked to compare the draft policy with the town’s policy for tax abatements and make comments.
Heard that Middlebury representatives have been working with consultants to determine what Middlebury’s identity and message is. The consultants met with six focus groups representing a cross-section of the community and asked them for input. The consultants are taking that input and creating a marketing and branding strategy for the town, such as a possible logo and tag line. The commission will consider those ideas next month.
