Taqueria San Jose closed for several weeks
GOSHEN — Taqueria San Jose will be closed for the next several weeks while repairs are made to the building.
The south side of San Jose was heavily damaged Sunday, March 24, when a vehicle crashed into the building on Madison Street. Police had been in pursuit of a man who had allegedly stolen gasoline in Ligonier; and the driver, Abraham Villegas, had tried running into several vehicles before rolling the vehicle several times.
The vehicle came to a stop only after crashing into San Jose.
Villegas and a passenger fled the scene on foot before being apprehended by police.
A second passenger, a 15-year-old female, remained in the vehicle and was taken to IU Health Goshen for a major but non-life threatening knee injury.
She was treated and released Sunday.
Mayra Garcia, the manager of San Jose and daughter of owner Jose Garcia, said they will need to replace the wall and glass in the front of the building, while also conducting general cleanup of the site before they can reopen.
Garcia said the building is insured. She believes the repairs can be completed within the next two weeks and hopes the location can reopen in three weeks.
