Premier Arts producing youth and family shows

ELKHART — Premier Arts Academy is currently producing “Sleeping Beauty” and “Little Women”.

“Sleeping Beauty” has 200 cast members ranging in age from 3-16. The academy auditioned 215 children for the show, 30 percent of which were new to Premier Arts.

When the children audition, they are required to learn a song and sometimes a dance on the spot. They then perform in front of the panel of directors to see if they earn a spot in the cast. Behavior and discipline mean a great deal to the team, as well as talent.

Premier Arts believes in creating citizens, not stars. If a star comes along, that is a bonus. They welcome new children and adults for each of the shows and will usually include 20-25 percent of the new people in all of the shows.

“Sleeping Beauty” will be performed at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12 for the Youth Educational Series (Y.E.S.) as well as a 7:30 p.m. evening performance and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.
