Elkhart City prepares to name new assistant chief

The city of Elkhart is expected to name a new assistant police chief Tuesday.

ELKHART — The city of Elkhart is expected to name a new assistant police chief at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Mayor Dick Moore has scheduled a news conference at city hall to make the announcement.

The person selected will replace Tim Balyeat, who recently announced his retirement after 26 years with the department. Balyeat, 55, plans to move to Florida.
