Bishop emeritus of Diocese of Fort Wayne - South Bend to receive for cancer treatment
FORT WAYNE — The Most Rev. John M. D’Arcy, bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Fort Wayne - South Bend, will be receiving treatment for a recent cancer diagnosis.
D’Arcy was admitted to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Bright, Mass. on Dec. 30. After extensive testing, doctors found cancer in his lung and brain, according to a statement released by the Diocese.
The Bishop expects to return to the hospital for more testing and begin radiation treatment. He hopes to return to the Diocese of Fort Wayne - South Bend in two or three weeks. He plans to continue treatment, which may include chemotherapy, with his doctors in Fort Wayne.
“Our beloved Bishop D’Arcy shared with me his deep trust in the Lord as he embraces this cross in union with Jesus,” said The Most. Rev. Kevin C. Rhoades, bishop of the Diocese. “I invite the faithful of our diocese to pray for Bishop D’Arcy as he undergoes treatment for the cancer.
“I would also like to assure all who love Bishop D’Arcy of my prayers for you as we walk with him in his treatment,” he added.
D’Arcy served as bishop of the Diocese from May 1, 1985 until Jan. 13, 2010.
