Goshen company gets nod from Google
GOSHEN — Google has handpicked a Goshen tech business to be part of a marketing campaign that will roll out in early 2013.
A dozen people from Google were recently in town to meet with Boyd Smith, head of TechKnowledgey Inc. The crew filmed at Boyd’s West Lincoln Avenue office and around downtown, including a stop at the South Side Soda Shop on Main Street.
TechKnowledgey has been in business for six years as a Google apps reseller. The company works with businesses primarily in Elkhart and St. Joseph counties to provide information technology services, like setting up programs that allow business owners to access data on smartphones and laptops from remote locations.
For now, Smith has to remain relatively tight-lipped about Google’s upcoming marketing campaign, but he said more details are expected to be released in the first quarter of next year.
TechKnowledgey was among two dozen businesses invited this past summer to the Googleplex, the Internet giant’s corporate headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. The two-day summit was Google’s first meetup with its new small business partners. There, Boyd toured Google’s innovative campus and learned more about the new marketing campaign.
Smith said the partnership with Google is allowing smaller businesses to compete with larger companies on a new level.
“It gives us a tremendous competitive advantage in Goshen,” he added.
News about the marketing campaign comes at a good time for Goshen, Smith said. The economy has been brutal for small businesses like TechKnowledgey, he explained.
“We’re coming out of the other end of this,” Smith said. “This is cool, and I’m just excited for Goshen that the world is changing, and we’re part of it.”
