Voter registration in Elkhart County spikes as deadline looms
If you want to vote on Nov. 6 and haven’t registered, time is running short.
Today, Oct. 9, is your last chance, and Elkhart County officials are reporting a spike in registration activity as the deadlines loom.
Between Friday and Monday morning, 256 people in Elkhart County filed or updated their registration forms online, a number “that’s pretty unusual for us,” said Chad Clingerman, manager of the Elkhart County Voter Registration Office. The weekend norm over the summer was only around 10 or so.
Likewise, there’s been a “steady flow” of people coming into his office to register, Clingerman said.
If you’re going to register, you can do so at the Elkhart County Voter Registration Office at the Elkhart County Administration Building, 117 N. Second St., Goshen. The deadline is 4 p.m. today, the normal closing time.
Alternatively, the public may register online at www.indianavoters.in.gov up until 11:59 p.m. tonight. To register online you must have an Indiana driver’s license or state ID card.
Meanwhile, early voting started Monday and goes through Nov. 5 at the Elkhart County Administration Building and the Elkhart County Courts Building, 315 S. 2nd St., Elkhart.
Chris Anderson, a deputy in the Elkhart County Clerk’s Office, said there was a “constant flow” of voters Monday at the two polling sites.
