MISHAWAKA — Penn High School’s spell bowl squad won first place at the Kouts Invitational on Monday. The Kingsmen scored 87 points out of a possible 90.

Winamac came in second with 61 points and Kouts and Hanover Central tied for third place with 54 points each.

Perfect varsity spellers for Penn were Nitin Arora, Nisha Bhatt, Austin Heckaman, Leah Hershberger, Jenny Huang, Richard Jung, Marija Lapkus and Disha Waghray. Perfect junior varsity spellers were Faihaan Arif, Kanika Arora, Presto George, Peter Jung, Max Kirsch, Alice Kwak, Yejee Oh, Payal Patel and Chris Yun.
