Man charged with threatening Donnelly aide ruled unfit for trial
SOUTH BEND - The Granger man who allegedly threatened a congressional staffer of U.S. Congressman Joe Donnelly was ruled unfit for trial today by a federal judge.
Brett Keiling, 46, of 10130 Anderson Road, was arrested in January on initial charges of criminal complaint after threatening a staff member in Donnellyâs South Bend office over the phone.
Keiling - a frequent caller to the office -- told the staffer, âI am going to come and back stab you. I mean literally come down and stab you,â at which point the woman hung up, according to an affidavit by FBI Special Agent Robert Dane.
According to Mary L. Hatton, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorneyâs Office, U.S. Magistrate Judge Christopher Neuchterlein signed an order postponing trial for purposes of determining whether Keilingâs competency can be restored.
