Man, 26, killed in Elkhart shooting

A Sunday evening shooting at Carriage House Apartments left a 26-year-old man dead. At 5:22 p.m., Elkhart City Police were called to 920 Portage Lane and found Len D. Carruthers on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Caruthers was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:02 p.m., according to the Elkhart Police Department Homicide Unit.

ELKHART -- A Sunday evening shooting at Carriage House Apartments left a 26-year-old man dead.

At 5:22 p.m., Elkhart City Police were called to 920 Portage Lane and found Len D. Carruthers on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Caruthers was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:02 p.m., according to the Elkhart Police Department Homicide Unit.

An autopsy will be conducted later to determine the exact cause and manner of death, police said.

An investigation is ongoing and has been turned over to the Elkhart Police Department Homicide Unit.

At this time, several people have been interviewed.
