New movie releases this week:

Need for Speed

Need for Speed (Action / Crime)

Need for Speed follows street racer Tobey Marshall (played by Aaron Paul) as he races across the country to get revenge on his ex-partner. The movie is based on the racing video game franchise of the same name. DreamWorks chairperson and renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg played a part in casting Aaron Paul as the lead after he watched several Breaking Bad episodes back-to-back, according to Paul in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Repentance (Horror / Thriller)

Repentance tells the story of author and spiritual leader Tommy Carter, played by Anthony Mackie, whose life takes a turn for the worse when he takes on a troubled client called Angel Sanchez, played by Forest Whitaker. Forest Whitaker has previously won several awards for his portrayal of Ugandan ruler Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland in 2006.

After Tiller (Documentary)

After Tiller is a documentary about the aftermath of the 2009 assassination of Dr. George Tiller in Kansas. Tiller was one of the few doctors in the country who performed abortions late in pregnancy, according to The New York Times. The film follows Tiller's close colleagues who face harassment from protestors, challenges in their personal lives and tough ethical decisions in order to keep this service alive.

Inside Llewyn Davis (Drama / Music) 

The Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis follows a week in life of a musician trying to navigate the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961. Llewyn Davis, played by Oscar Isaac, is inspired by folk musician Dave Van Ronk, according to Rolling Stones. Three of Van Ronk's songs are also featured in the film. The movie also stars Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan and John Goodman.

12 Years a Slave (Biography / Drama / History)

12 Years a Slave

12 Years a Slave the story of Solomon Northup, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, as he is kidnapped and made to work in a New Orleans plantation in the 1800s. The film won Best Picture at the 2014 Academy Awards.
