Each year pastors and laypersons from the more than 1,000 United Methodist congregations in Indiana gather for their Annual Conference. This year, that gathering will be held in the Indianapolis Convention Center on May 29-31.

For the past several years, laypersons have been invited to submit a manuscript on the theme of the Annual Conference and one person is chosen to present his or her address to the assembly of laity. This year’s theme is “The Outwardly-Focused Church,” and the layperson selected to deliver the address is Nancy Bennett, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Elkhart.

Bennett’s selection is both an honor for her and recognition of her role as Trinity’s Lead Missionary at Servants Heart, its mission at 400 W. Mishawaka Road, the former site of First United Methodist Church, which discontinued in 2011. Bennett has been instrumental in leading Trinity to enlarge its mission to that part of the community through worship, activities for children and youth and partnerships with other civic organizations.

“We are so thankful Nancy is part of our church and playing such a significant role in our mission to Elkhart. We are so proud of her for receiving this honor and look forward to having people all over Indiana get the chance to hear her heart as well as her words,” said Lead Pastor Mark Dicken.

Bennett will deliver her address at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29. It will be live-streamed at www.inumc.org.
